As always, equipment will be provided by SF Rec & Parks and the SF Parks Alliance (the new name for the partnership created by the Parks Council and Parks Trust).

October Update and Cleanup

On October 11, 2011, in Clean Up Day, by allyson

Our next playground cleanup day is Saturday, October 15 at 10 a.m. Our Rec & Parks liaison, Will Lyons, has moved on for the school year, so we will meet our new liaison this month. We are grateful for Will’s enthusiasm and expertise, and anticipate a new, positive working relationship with a Rec & Parks liaison.

Kimberly Kiefer has informed us that new signs will be ordered soon, but cautioned that there is not a budget for replacement. Hopefully they will weld the signs on instead of bolting! She confirmed the wasp nest that Shéyna inadventently discovered during our August cleanup has been dealt with.

We have flyers for anyone interested in handing them out when you’re at the playground. Send an email and Allyson will either send you the PDF that you can print at home, or we can arrange to print some for you.

Here is the Facebook event for Saturday’s workday. Please invite others and let them know about the group!

Another Clean Up Day

On August 13, 2011, in Clean Up Day, by Wendy Harris

We had our second clean up day at Macaulay Park. Will, the Volunteer Coordinator with SF Rec and Park, arrived early and used a power hose to clean off all of the playground equipment. That meant lots of weeding and pruning for us!

The trees along the back are covered in something Will called water suckers, a term I have never heard before. Apparently the water suckers just sap the energy from the trees and need to be removed. I thought they were just some vine growing around the trunk of the tree.

As I was pruning, I stumbled across a funny surprise! (photo coming soon)

It was a great day and we got a lot accomplished. Unfortunately, it was Will’s last day as our Volunteer Coordinator as he is going back to college in the fall.

Be sure to join us for the next clean up day scheduled on October 15th!

Inaugural Clean Up Day!

On June 18, 2011, in Clean Up Day, by Wendy Harris

Our inaugural clean up day was a success! Several people joined us on a beautiful summer morning to scrub, sweep, rake, and weed. Even the preschoolers got busy. The park sparkled in the sunshine when we were done! Be sure to join us for the next clean up day scheduled on August 13th at 10:00 a.m.
